NORWAY
The best known tourist attractions in Norway include the North Cape, which is the northernmost point of the European continent, the western fjords, Sami culture in Finnmark, the wild and beautiful coastline of northern Norway and the Gothic-inspired medieval Nidaros cathedral in Trondheim, the oldest church in Scandinavia. In the same county are the unique old copper mines at Røros and to the west, on the coast, lies the town of Ålesund with its special Jugend style architecture.

The architectural heritage of the Hanseatic period in Bergen has given the town a place on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The capital, Oslo, with the Royal Palace, the Vigeland Park, Akershus Castle and the Holmenkollen ski jump are the starting point for many tours of Norway, and the idyllic skerries along the south coast are among the most popular places for Norwegians' own summer holidays.

Ever since the English salmon lords and the European upper classes came to fish in Norwegian salmon rivers in the last century, fishing and outdoor life have attracted many tourists. The Norwegian mountains, the national parks and the coastal landscape of North Norway are frequently visited by foreigners who appreciate untouched wilderness.
